2DCAT – Eat the Rich

2DCAT – Eat the Rich

There’s a specific kind of anger that doesn’t arrive loudly, but rather, it accumulates. Eat the Rich understands that.

The D.C. duo opens the collectoin with the title track “Eat The Rich”. A cold and deliberate song that is not interested in subtlety. The guillotine isn’t a metaphor. “Never Enough” follows in the place most people actually recognize: the retreat inward, the quiet of someone who has learned to live deeper down. “Salvation Will Not Come” closes the original three in Latin and stripped silence. Whatever you were waiting for isn’t coming.

Three Blue Rose Edits fill out the collection - Johan’s own remixes of earlier material, pulled into the darker current the new songs occupy. They fit quite well and seem to move the band into a much darker direction.

What makes 2DCAT worth paying attention to beyond the songs: Johan tells us that he builds the synthesizers they use in the band as well as hardware they perform live with. HAEZL comes from an acclaimed opera background as well, and has shared stages with Patti LaBelle, Cynthia Erivo, Renée Fleming. That combination of electrical engineering obsession and trained classical voice is genuinely unusual in this scene, and it shows in the sound.
