Antipole & Paris Alexander – Winter Solstice EP

Antipole & Paris Alexander – Winter Solstice EP

Nearly a decade into their collaboration, Karl Morten Dahl and Paris Alexander pick up exactly where Crystalline left off. Six tracks. Cold haze. No detours.

“Late September” and “Winter Sun” lead with strident dance rhythms and haunted basslines. “Sad Lover (Desolated)” pulls from post-punk familiarity - guitar with a chilled resonance, ghostly harmonic layers, the kind of track that earns its references without leaning on them. Eirene joins on “Passing Time,” adding spectral depth to the backing vocals. Throughout, Paris Alexander’s vocals stay husky, near-whispered, despondent - “As we walk together” on “Late September” repeating with a quietly vampiric insistence.

“Full Circle” closes on a hypnotic interplay of slightly detuned synth lead against bass, lush pads underneath. It works. It ends too soon.

Winter Solstice doesn’t break molds. It doesn’t need to.
