Tania Cassette – The Flame

Tania Cassette – The Flame

By now, most everyone knows that Glass Spells are on hiatus. This does not necessary mean that the individual band members are though, and Glass Spell’s vocalist Tania Cassette has released her first, solo release..

“The Flame” is her debut solo single, produced by Kyle and Myles Mendes of NITE, and it arrives with a clear aesthetic identity: 80s nocturnal smoothness, neon-glazed Italo early in the decade giving way to the lush pre-garage polish that followed.

Cassette’s voice has never been the question. What “The Flame” answers is what she sounds like when the Glass Spells framework isn’t the container. The honest answer is: not entirely different. The 80s synthpop influenced froideur of her work on Thrills and Confessions is still present, and fans of Glass Spells will find this familiar territory.

Whether that’s a feature or a limitation becomes clearer with more material. For a debut single, it’s enough.
