Mortes – Darkwalker
Mortes returns with another captivating entry in the darkwave and post-punk space. “Darkwalker” is a gothic piece built around a solitary figure wandering through empty halls, candlelit corridors, and the kind of restless longing that Gothic literature has always done best. The imagery is vivid and the execution earns it.
The guitar work is exquisite. It drives the song without dominating it, sitting alongside the keys in a way that gives the track its forward momentum while the keys add the haunting atmosphere underneath. The vocals are what Mortes consistently brings that sets the project apart. There is a dark romantic quality to the delivery that suits the material perfectly.
Lyrically the song is direct and repetitive in the way that the best Gothic music tends to be. “And I’m looking for you” repeated against the relentless forward motion of the track functions like footsteps echoing through abandoned chambers. The obsession is the point. The energy is unmistakable.
We cannot wait to hear this one live.
